AI Payments and Stablecoins

Your AI agent doesn't just think — it transacts.

Right now, AI agents can draft emails, generate reports, and answer questions. But the moment they need to pay someone — buy supplies, pay an invoice, tip a service, subscribe to a tool — everything stops. A human has to pull out a credit card, log into a bank, or approve a wire transfer.

That bottleneck is disappearing. Stablecoins — digital dollars that live on blockchain networks — let AI agents send and receive real money with a single API call. No credit card numbers. No bank logins. No 3-5 business day delays. Settlement in seconds, 24/7, anywhere in the world.

This is called agentic commerce, and it changes how businesses handle money.

How it works

A stablecoin is a cryptocurrency pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. One USDC equals one dollar. It lives in a digital wallet that your AI agent controls, and it can be sent to any other wallet — a vendor, a contractor, another agent — in seconds.

The payment flow:

  1. Your AI agent identifies a payment that needs to happen (invoice received, supply order, subscription renewal)
  2. It verifies the amount, recipient, and any conditions you've set (spending limits, approval thresholds, vendor whitelist)
  3. It sends the stablecoin payment directly — no bank, no card processor, no intermediary
  4. Settlement is final in seconds. Both parties see the transaction on-chain immediately.
  5. The agent logs the transaction, updates your books, and notifies you if needed

What your AI agent can do with stablecoin payments

Automated vendor payments

Your AI receives an invoice (email, PDF, API), extracts the amount, verifies it against your purchase order, and pays the vendor in USDC. The vendor gets the money in seconds. Your agent updates your accounting system automatically. No human touched it.

Payroll and contractor payments

Pay contractors and freelancers anywhere in the world without wire fees or currency conversion delays. Your agent calculates hours, applies rates, and sends payment on schedule. Especially powerful for international teams — a contractor in the Philippines gets paid the same speed as one in Philadelphia.

Agent-to-agent commerce

This is where it gets interesting. Your AI agent needs data from another company's AI agent — a parts price, a shipping quote, a credit check. Instead of a human negotiating and invoicing, the agents negotiate programmatically, agree on a price, and settle payment instantly. Machine-to-machine commerce at the speed of an API call.

Escrow and conditional payments

Smart contracts can hold funds in escrow and release them when conditions are met. Your agent orders materials — the payment is locked in escrow. When the shipment tracking shows delivery, the funds release automatically. No disputes, no chasing payments, no trust issues.

Subscription and API payments

Your AI agent uses other AI services — translation APIs, data enrichment, image generation. Instead of managing credit cards across 15 services, your agent pays per-use with stablecoins. Microtransactions that would be impossible with traditional payment rails (try charging $0.003 on a credit card).

Customer payments and invoicing

Accept stablecoin payments from customers. Your AI generates an invoice with a payment link or wallet address. The customer (or their AI agent) pays. Settlement is instant. No 30-day net terms, no chasing receivables, no 3% credit card processing fee.

The stablecoins and networks that matter

Stablecoins:

  • USDC (Circle) — Most trusted, fully reserved, regulated. The standard for business payments. Monthly reserve attestations by Deloitte.
  • USDT (Tether) — Largest by market cap (~$140B). Deepest liquidity worldwide. Less transparent reserves.
  • PYUSD (PayPal) — Built on Solana with compliance features baked in (ZK confidential transfers, clawback). Growing in traditional commerce.

The two networks that matter for payments

There are dozens of blockchain networks, but for business payments, two stand out:

Solana — The production standard

  • Transaction cost: ~$0.001 per USDC transfer
  • Settlement: ~2 seconds
  • USDC supply: $5-9 billion on Solana alone
  • Visa, Stripe, PayPal, and Shopify all chose Solana for their stablecoin payment infrastructure
  • Localized fee markets mean your payment fees stay stable even when the network is busy
  • Mature ecosystem: deep liquidity, broad wallet support, battle-tested at scale

Best for: B2B payments, vendor payments, payroll, any business that needs reliability and liquidity at scale.

Sui — Best consumer UX in crypto

  • Transaction cost: ~$0.001 per transfer
  • Settlement: ~480ms deterministic finality (fastest in crypto)
  • USDC: natively issued by Circle, $468M+ and growing fast (+28% last month)
  • zkLogin: users sign in with Google/Apple/Facebook and get a wallet — no seed phrase, no crypto knowledge needed
  • Sponsored transactions: your business pays gas fees so customers never touch crypto
  • Batch up to 1,024 payments in a single atomic transaction
  • Passkey support: sign transactions with TouchID/FaceID

Best for: Consumer-facing payments, onboarding non-crypto users, new payment products where UX matters most.

Other networks exist (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon) but for most payment use cases, Solana and Sui offer the best combination of speed, cost, and ecosystem support. We recommend the right chain based on your specific needs.

Security and controls

An AI agent with access to money needs guardrails. Every system we build includes:

  • Spending limits — Per-transaction and daily caps. Agent can pay a $200 invoice automatically but flags anything over $1,000 for human approval.
  • Vendor whitelists — Agent can only send to pre-approved wallet addresses. No rogue payments.
  • Multi-signature — High-value transactions require approval from multiple keys (your key + agent key + backup key).
  • Audit trail — Every transaction is on-chain and logged in your system. Complete, immutable, auditable.
  • Kill switch — Instantly freeze the agent's payment capability if anything looks wrong.
  • Human-in-the-loop — Configurable thresholds for when a human must approve. Start conservative, expand as trust builds.

Who this is for

  • Businesses paying international contractors — eliminate wire fees and 3-5 day delays
  • Companies with high transaction volumes — save 2-3% on every payment vs. credit cards
  • Businesses using AI agents — give your agents the ability to transact, not just talk
  • Anyone tired of payment friction — 30-day terms, chasing invoices, reconciliation headaches
  • Forward-thinking companies — get ahead of the curve before your competitors do

How we help

We set up the full stack — from wallet infrastructure to AI agent integration to accounting reconciliation:

  1. Wallet setup — Secure business wallets with proper key management, backup, and access controls
  2. Agent integration — Your AI agent gets payment capabilities with the guardrails described above
  3. On/off ramps — Connect to exchanges or services that convert between USD and stablecoins
  4. Accounting integration — Every transaction syncs to your books (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.)
  5. Compliance — Tax reporting, transaction records, regulatory requirements for your jurisdiction

Try the demo

There's a live AI Payments assistant on the demo page. Ask it about stablecoin payments for your business, how agent-to-agent commerce works, or how to set up your first payment flow. It knows the real technology — not just the buzzwords.
